Welcome Coach Cat, Speech Therapist

Qi Creative welcomes Cat Beck, Speech Therapist, to the Qi Creative Team!

About Cat

Image description: Coach Cat holding a mug with a “C” decal, with her black cat, Newt, by her side.

Cat firmly believes that all communication is valid, and that neurodivergent communication styles are different, not lesser.

Being neurodivergent herself, Cat has a keen awareness of the importance (and challenges!) of self-advocacy and living authentically. It feels both profoundly powerful and humbling to support individual expression and the sharing of human experiences—in all their beautiful variations.

And those variations are not only worth celebrating, they’re worth understanding. In the wise words of Hannah Gadsby (one of Cat’s favourite comedians): “[…] Picasso was right. I believe we could paint a better world if we learned to see it from all perspectives, as many perspectives as we possibly could. Because diversity is strength. Difference is a teacher. Fear difference, you learn nothing.”

Cat holds a Master’s in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Alberta. Most of her experience comes from 2 years of working directly with autistic children, their families, and educators. She is trained in the SCERTS model, which is an educational approach to assessing and treatment planning for autistic children. She is also a certified facilitator of Hanen’s “More Than Words” program for parents of children with social communication differences.

Her strengths include personalizing therapy, creating visuals and social stories, and being very curious about everything (just like a proper cat!)

Outside of work, you’ll find Cat playing peekaboo with her cat named Newt (a reference to her favourite movie), drinking a hot cup of tea, flexing her creativity in hobby design work, and most likely playing games… all with a favourite show (re)playing in the background.

Let’s give a warm welcome to Cat, as she joins our team in creating awesome across Alberta!
